As family care givers and health and human services leaders…

Our days are busy and filled with responsibilities.  They can actually go by quickly and the next thing you know another season has passed by.  Can you believe that we are entering in the way of 2014?

The reason I bring this up is that caregivers and professionals can go for long stretches of time without talking to close friends. When they feel super busy or stressed and can use the moral support from a close friend, caregivers can pull back and isolate themselves more.  Don’t forget that your closest friends want to be there for you – if not in person than over the phone or video chat.  Get off Caregiver Isolation Island by using your lifeline to phone a friend.

Practice Tip:  What special friend have you not spoken to in a long while?  Pick up the phone and call her/him now.  Or, set up a video chat on SKYPE or Google Hangouts for a virtual coffee or tea to get caught up.  Do not keep passing through the days and weeks feeling alone.  Phone a good friend to share what is happening in your life and give yourself a boost of energy. Maybe there is even a great friend you have not spoken to in years who would serve as a great reminder of good times from your past.  It is amazing that when you reach out and re-connect with those old friends that you can very quickly get caught up and feel good during the call.  Give yourself this boost of a friendly chat – the best part is that it is convenient and free.

Go forward with energy and care!
